PGTF coaches Cassaundra O’Brien, Sadie Bialuski and Sophia Mahmoud hosted athletes from the local cross country/biathlon ski club for a “day in the life of a track athlete”. The purpose of the event was to encourage athletes to develop or maintain skills and fitness required in their sport by participating in other activities during the off season. CNSC coach Simon Lamarche believes that young athletes need to develop “all around” strengths, rather then “targeted” ones, by training in different sports that compliment each other. ” Track is the best off season training these athletes could ask for.” After a group warm up, athletes completed training in sprints/hurdles, long jump and javelin. The skiers finished with standing jump and hang testing. PGTF is hoping to welcome more Nordic skiers to the track family next season!
