Becoming a Junior Coach

Becoming a coach is easy and fun - no track experience needed!

  • Young athletes (or other young people) turning 13 are eligible to be Volunteer Coaches with the Track Rascal Program
  • At the age of 14 (turning 15), these young people can then sign up for the local coaching course and become paid Junior Coaches of the PGTF Club as long as they have completed at least 24 hours of volunteer coaching and commit to coaching for the season
  • ALL COACHES require a number from the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP#) before registering for any coach training courses (see button below)
  • A variety of coach courses are available through viaSport, BC Athletics, and Engage Sport North
  • All coaches require the training module “Making Ethical Decisions” so this is a great place to start as it is available online (see above links); Run, Jump, Throw , Wheel is the next course that coaches should consider
  • PGTF Club will reimburse for any coaching courses as long as Junior Coaches commit to the season of coaching
