Season Cancelled Due to Covid-19

Hello Everybody,

It was with heavy hearts that the board of the Prince George Track and Field Club decided this past Monday to completely cancel the 2020 Track and Field Season.  With our training facility closed, no congregating allowed, and now the BC Summer Games cancelled, we determined it would be extremely difficult to salvage a season for our athletes.  We are working with Trackie to refund all fees paid for the outdoor season only.  Please be patient.  Trackie is a Canada-wide, multisport registration system that is absolutely working at maximum capacity to refund thousands of athletes involved in hundreds of activities.  If by the end of May you have not received your refund, please contact the club (princegeorgetrackandfield@gmail.com).  We will contact Trackie directly on your behalf to determine the issue.  Again, we are sorry for the inconvenience and hope you are not too disappointed to join us again next year when we hope to showcase more improvements to Masich Place Stadium.

Coaches and junior coaches – we are extremely sorry to leave you in the lurch without athletes and summer jobs.  Please understand that we are still committed to helping you develop as a coach.  If before the next season begins, you are interested in attending any coach professional development activities that could be shared with the club, please contact the board. We will do our best to support you.  We do hope to offer at least one coach training program at the beginning of next year for any new coaches starting out.

Club Graduates – although we are not participating in a season this year, the club is still offering the Al Rivas/Angie Kohut Memorial scholarship to qualifying high school graduates who were members of the club last season.  Be sure to check out the webpage for more info.  Application deadline is July 31, 2020.

Everyone, please keep yourself in the club loop.  We will do our best to keep up to date information on the club web page (https://www.pgtrackandfield.ca/).  Perhaps over the summer, if the congregating ban is lifted, we can all meet at the stadium to enjoy a few hours of the sports we love.  We will still need volunteers and officials for next season, especially since we are hosting the BC Track and Field Championship Jamboree in June.  We may need to host officiating workshops out of season to make sure club members are ready.

I hope this newsletter finds you and your family healthy, happy and not stir-crazy!

Sincerely,

Elena Thomas

PGTF President

BC ATHLETICS UPDATE – CORONAVIRUS (COVID 19) – #6

BC Athletics Update – Coronavirus (COVID 19) – #6

March 26, 2020

Physical Distance – Avoid Contact with Others – Stay Home – Train at Home

The BC Athletics Board of Directors and staff want to THANK all the BC Athletics Members and Clubs for their efforts to being vigilant and helping in reducing the spread of COVID 19 and protecting each other. Your feedback, suggestions and recommendations are greatly appreciated and help us in addressing the challenges we all face as we navigate the current situation and provide information to all members.

Training Directive: see BC Athletics Update – Coronavirus (COVID 19) – #5

Membership:

  • The previous encouragement for clubs to continue to register members was made at a date when it was still possible to gather in groups of 50 or less and to maintain physical distance of at least 2 metres. This was wrong and has proven to be wrong. We apologize for this advice.

  • The Board of Directors will, on May 30th, 2020 (as announced previously), consider the questions concerning the BC Athletics Membership. This will allow the Board to consider all factors and determine the best way forward. The Board will respond as soon as possible following their review and consideration.

Competitions:

  • With the announced event cancellations/postponements/rescheduling – see the BC Athletics Calendar of Events  – the following order has been put in place:

    • All Athletics competitions under the jurisdiction of BC Athletics will be suspended until further notice. This includes: Track & Field, Road Running, Marathons & Ultras, X-Country & Trail Races and Race Walking.

BC Athletics staff continue their work to provide information and modify programs along with planning on how once we are allowed to gather, train, run jump throw wheel and compete – how quickly can we make this happen.

Thank you for your understanding and patience during this time. The Board of Directors and Staff are continuing to monitor Health Advisories and Govt Directives.

Keep well and stay safe.

Sincerely,

BC Athletics Board of Directors and Staff
