PG ATHLETES COLLECT 7 MEDALS AT BC TRACK CHAMPIONSHIP IN NANAIMO

PRINCE GEORGE – Nine Prince George Track and Field athletes attended the BC Athletics Track Jamboree in Nanaimo July 10 – 12th. The Jamboree is the provincial championship for athletes 14 and older and acts as the qualification meet for the Legion Youth Canadian Track and Field Championship to be held in Sainte-Therese, QC – August 7-9. Athletes selected to this team will also attend the Legion Camp (August 5-11, 2015).

Fourteen year old Simon Nemethy led the medal haul with a silver in the 1500m steeplechase, and bronze medals in the 1200m run and the 2000m run. (The official results place Simon 4th in 2k run however a runner from the North West Territories who finished ahead of Simon was not eligible for a medal). Simon was 8th in the 800m run. All four events were personal bests.

Seventeen year old Ryan Gaiesky collected two more medals. His time of 56.50 seconds was enough to win the 400m Hurdles event. His first place time also met the BC Legion team qualification standard. At this time we are still awaiting notification of Ryan’s possible selection to the Youth Legion team. Ryan also collected a silver medal with his time of 14.97 seconds in the Youth 110m Hurdles event.

Quesnel’s Cole Dinsdale won the club’s sixth medal with his third place effort in the Youth men’s 2000m Steeplechase. Cole was 9th in both the 800m and 1500m runs. All three events produced new personal bests.

Sixteen year old Shelby Jansen took third place in the Youth women’s 200m dash with a time of 25.83 seconds to round out the medal haul. Shelby was also 5th in the 400m event.

Other club members included: Lindsay King (7th – 300m, 8th – 80m hurdles, 5th – 200m hurdles), Omar Medina (5th Long Jump), Alexander Nemethy (7th – 1500m, 11th – 800m), Lauren Matheson (9th – 100m, 14th – 200m) and Brian Nemethy who was 8th in the open 5000m run.

NOTE: Former PGTF Athlete Kendel Rogers was third in the Midget girls Pole Vault with a jump of 2.35m.

Athletes who do not get selected to the Team BC roster for the Legion meet are able to compete if they exceeded the “Open” category standard.
