May News Flash

1 05 2018

Greetings Everyone!

Isn’t the weather FABULOUS??!!

Here are a few items to note:

1.       Unfortunately, there will be no parking at the AIMHI lot on Saturdays anymore.  They have a weekly bike sale and there will not be room.  You are free to park in the Lac des Bois school lot as long as they don’t have an event.  The street is always available and might be most convenient.  Sorry about that!  Thank you all for dealing politely and maturely with the last minute inconvenience this past Saturday J

2.       Water Bottles are essential at the track – two on a hot day is a good idea.  Yes, we do have a water carboy at the track c-can but with 160 kids going through on Saturdays it doesn’t go far!

3.       Dylan Armstrong Classic – if you are heading to Kamloops this coming weekend please pack accordingly – take all types of weather gear – you just never know!  SINGLETS ARE A MUST FOR COMPETITORS.  If you don’t have one, please see some one at the track c-can – $25 each if you didn’t pay online.

4.       Jack Brow Memorial – Kelowna June 29th – July 1stIt is the long weekend so book your hotel now if you are attending.   I have attached the notes about a hotel holding by the Okanagan Athletics Club.  Do what works for your family but do it soon!  Remember to check the tentative schedule before you register for events!!

5.       VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!  Becky Whitehouse from Quesnel is coordinating the high school zones May 15th and 16th.  IF you are heading down to watch your athlete please consider volunteering at the meet.  No experience necessary to hold a tape measure or rake sand.  If Becky gets enough interest, an officials course may be offered before the meet starts.  Please contact Elena ( ASAP if you are a certified official or an interested parent volunteer for that event.  Thanks so much!!  Many hands make light work!

April latest news

20 04 2018

We are starting practices this week!

  1. Seniors will start Saturday April 21, 2018 at 10 am.  That’s tomorrow!!
  2. Juniors will start Monday, April 23, 2018 at 6pm. Parents please stay for a 15 minute info session!
  3. Track Rascals will start Wednesday, April 25, 2018 at 6pm.  Parents please stay for a 15 minute info session!
  4. Please send your athlete with ALL weather gear.  Temperatures change quickly as do weather conditions. Water bottles are a must as there is no running water at Lac des Bois.  At the moment we have no port-a-potty either so make sure business is done at home before coming to the field.
  5. Parents, please arrive early to pick up your athlete – cold temperatures or rain could result in shorter training sessions.
  6. The jump pit will need to be turned over and relevelled; a few extra hands would be nice J We’ll try to do it Saturday morning at senior practice so bring a shovel and make the work light!
  7. ATTENTION ANY midget athletes looking to try out for the BC summer games: The try outs are at the High School Zones in Quesnel, May 15 and 16; at this time please contact your high school track sponsor to register; there may be other opportunities but they are not set up yet. Any athlete who has a full PG track membership is eligible to compete in any sanctioned meet so no other BC Athletic fees should be required, only per event fees.

Here are the latest notes for our members:

11 04 2018
  1. We cannot start our season until the snow is clear from the field.  Sorry that it’s taking so long but that is out of our control L  Please keep yourself up to date by checking our webpage regularly.  We have postponed until next week for now but are not feeling optimistic that the weather will cooperate.  It may take another week after that!  We will do our best to keep the webpage current.
  2. After discussions with charter bus companies and a few members, it was decided that travelling as a club to the Dylan Armstrong Classic in Kamloops is both inconvenient for most and expensive for all.  Sorry for the let down if you were really looking forward to the trip but there will be no group bus.  However, it would be great if we could do our best as a club to share rides to keep costs down and reduce the size of our footprint.
  3. Deadline approaching! If you are interested in staying at the same hotel as the club in Kamloops, here is the info you need: the Holiday inn Express  at 1550 Versatile Drive in Kamloops for May 4th – May 6th.  That is 12 standard rooms with two queen beds at a rate of $138.00 plus tax per night.  Breakfast is included and runs from 630-930 daily.  The 12 rooms will be held in the group block until April 13th, 2018 at which point any unclaimed rooms will be released. All guests must call in directly to the hotel to create a reservation and supply a credit card to guarantee their reservation.  Group name:  Prince George Track and field club; code:  E4EG2; Reservation # for the Holiday inn is 1-877-660-8550
  4. If you need more info about the Dylan Armstrong Classic in Kamloops May4 and 5, here is the link:  Parents, you must register your own athlete via trackie.
  5. For those without track meet experience:
  1. Athletes must show up at the stadium at least one hour prior to expected start time of their event.  Event times can be moved ahead or behind officially by 30 minutes without notice.  Athletes will want time to warm up before each event.
  2. Be prepared for all types of weather – bring jackets, pants, shorts, hats, water bottles and sunscreen – don’t forget your club singlet
  3. The club usually sets up a “camp” at the track with shade and seats, first aid and coolers.  Please join in.
  4. The designated head coach will pick up all registrations and will have them available at the “camp”.
  5. Athletes must wear their numbers on the front of their singlets during competition
  6. Ribbons are usually handed out a short time after events have completed
  7. Listen carefully for marshaling calls over the PA system so athletes don’t miss events
  8. If an athlete has two events occurring at the same time, track events take precedence over field events – however athletes must check in with the Marshal for each of their events; sometimes throws or jumps can be made up or missed

Fingers crossed for warmer weather!!
